Zion Cemetery Restoration

Agency: Zion Cemetery

Description:

This historic South Memphis cemetery was founded by former slaves in the 1870s. In use until the 1970s, the property was largely abandoned and is now wildy overgrown with 30 years worth of scrub brush, saplings, thorn bushes, and very tall weeds. In the summer we cut the grass with heavy duty equipment and in winter we cut back brush with machetes. This is very hard work. You must be at least 18 to participate in this project unless you obtain express permission from the project coordinator.
