HOM relies heavily on leadership volunteers who have made the extra commitment to HOM and give to us their greatest assets, their time and their expertise. If you are interested in sharing more of your time with HOM, please consider the following opportunities:
Board of Directors
This is an elected position. Our board is both a governing board and a working board. Duties include monthly board meetings, serving on a board subcommittee , fundraising for the organization, attendance of and preparation for an annual strategic planning retreat , use of personal skills set and talents ( i.e. legal expertise, accounting, human resources, marketing, social service, fundraising, etc), and promoting HOM in the larger community. Board terms are three years. Nominations can be sent to
info@handsonmemphis.org.
Project Coordinator
Project Coordinators (PCs) are the lifeblood of our flexible volunteering program. PCs serve as the liaison between HOM staff and the partner agency for a term of at least
one year. By making this commitment to one project, the PC offers consistency to the agency, HOM and the volunteers. As liaison, the PC is responsible for communicating with the agency about project needs as well as with HOM about volunteer resources, tools or supplies needed to complete the project. PCs also serve as the contact point for HOM volunteers wishing to participate in their project. This entails fielding e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner and communicating pertinent project requirements to potential volunteers. A PC training of 90 minutes is required before leading projects for the monthly calendar or a HOM special event. At this training PCs are instructed in basic volunteer management, emergency procedures, and given the opportunity to discuss one on one potential projects with the Program
Director. PC trainings will be held quarterly. If you wish to apply you must have attended a new volunteer orientation and participated in 10 hours of HOM programming. Applications and inquiries can be sent to

Servathon Committee
Servathon is our single largest event of the year. It is both a fundraiser and a service event and takes six months to plan. Opportunities exist on the planning committee for individual and corporate volunteer recruitment, sponsorship recruitment, incentive procurement, food & beverage management, children's activity coordination, site management, and more. Requirements are good communications and organizational skills, ability to make monthly meetings and do subcommittee work in the interim, and 10 hours of service through regular monthly calendar projects. Nominations can be sent to
ashley@handsonmemphis.org.
Volunteer Council
The Volunteer Council (VC) is charged with the recruitment, retention, and recognition of all Hands On Memphis volunteers.
The VC recruits new volunteers for HOM by hosting quarterly social recruitment events, holding volunteer information sessions, and being a cheerleader for HOM in their every day lives. VC members also host on-site volunteer orientation projects, which serve as information sessions as well as first time projects for potential HOM volunteers. The VC is also responsible for the retention of HOM volunteers primarily by forming relationships with volunteers both old and new. Orientation follow up, project follow up, interest sharing, and invitations to social events are all small ways that VC members help to retain our membership. VC members seek to help new volunteers become engaged and old volunteers remain engaged by communicating additional information about service opportunities, community events, as well as networking and social events. VC members also plan both small and large-scale volunteer recognition events. In addition to a one-hour monthly meeting, there is a time commitment of one-two hours a month for leading orientation projects, making follow up phone calls, or attending special events. Requirements are strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, special event planning experience, leadership experience, and the willingness to try new things! Nominations or applications can be sent to
Ashley Harper, Program Director at
ashley@handsonmemphis.org.
Program Council
The purpose of the Program Council is to research and
implement a plan for growth for Hands On Memphis programs as
well as qualify control standards for existing programs. The
Program Council will address agency partner relationships,
project coordinators, project content and project
satisfaction. The term is two years to coincide with the HOM
fiscal year, which begins July 1. Nominations or
notification of interest can be sent to Ashley Harper at
ashley@handsonmemphis.org.
