About Hands On Memphis

Founded in 1993 by Phillip McCaull and a group of young, concerned citizens, Hands On Memphis (HOM) has for the past decade remained committed to offering flexible, meaningful, and educational managed volunteer opportunities for Memphis community members. While our offerings have grown, our focus has remained the same.
Hands on Memphis creates, manages, and leads hands-on projects that positively impact the lives of people in need in our community. HOM works with dozens of local non-profit agencies, community groups and neighborhood associations. Whether large or small, HOM provides our partner agencies with managed, planned monthly programs led and filled by committed and trained volunteers. We offer an average of 20-30 projects a month that take place after work hours, on the weekends, or during the lunch hour. This allows busy, working individuals the opportunity to find their niche in the volunteer community. The flexibility of the program allows volunteers to "sample" the work of many different Memphis agencies addressing a variety of issues from pre-school literacy to environmental clean ups to hunger and homelessness.
It is our hope that HOM programs will provide many opportunities for Memphians to become actively involved in volunteerism. It is also our hope that volunteers will be able to delve deeper into the issues addressed by these agencies through our Citizen Academy courses. HOM provides volunteers the opportunity to attend quarterly Citizen Academy forums on pertinent social issues. We also provide service-learning opportunities at many of our monthly projects, and will link project issue related resources to our web site periodically.
HOM relies heavily on leadership volunteers who have made the extra commitment to HOM and give to us their greatest assets, their time and their expertise. Visit our "Leadership Opportunities" page to find out more about becoming a Project Coordinator or joining one of our committees.
